1. Physical Properties :
It has a hardness of 8 and a density of 3.52-3.56 g/cm3. The refractive index are roughly n a 1.610, n a 1.618 or n a 1.630, n a 1.638. The density and refractive indexes are inter-related and depend on the composition of the specimen. Topazes richest in hydroxyl (OH) have a low density and high refractive indexes, whereas those richest in fluorine have a higher density and low refractive indexes. The stone has easy perfect basal cleavage.
2. Occurrence :
The mineral first classified scientifically as topaz came from Saxony. Topaz comes mainly from Brazil and in small quantities from Soviet Union, Japan, Sri Lanka, Burma and United States. It is occasionally found in Germany.
3. Who should wear it:
Ideally suited for people born in Zodiac signs ruled by Jupiter i.e. Sagittarius and Pisces, also recommended as lucky gem for people born under the Zodiac sign Scorpio and Aries.
